I noticed this error occurred in the System log each time I plugged my IPhone into my machine running Vista. After some research I realized that a few people using the Zune were also receiving this error message. People recommended plugging it into a different USB port, but that didn’t seem to make a difference. I also noticed that the Apple IPhone would appear in the Device Manager with a warning flag. I tried the Update Drive option with no luck.

I ended up installing ITunes which also installed Apple Mobile Device Support. It completely resolved the problem. The Apple IPhone device also was listed without the error in the Device Manager.

For people who don’t want to install ITunes they can install only the Apple Mobile Device Support by following the these steps:

- Download ITunes
- Extract the EXE using WinRAR or 7-zip
- Navigate to the extracted folder (iTunesSetup in this case)
- Run AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi

Hopefully this will help.
