This error may either occur if your hardware is defect (check HD, cabling etc.) or if you are having network troubles.

We have seen this error also in combination with using VPN. In my case I got the error right after disconnecting from the VPN (I had just saved some information prior to disconnecting), implying that Windows continued to write to the network location in the background when I disconnected from the VPN.
